Germany, Wehrmacht. An Eastern Front Medal by the Prussian State Mint
(Medaille „Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42“). Constructed of silvered and patinated zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse consisting of a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a swastika, the reverse with an inscription of “WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN 1941/42” (“WINTER BATTLE IN THE EAST 1941/42”), topped by a Stahlhelm and stick grande, unmarked, measuring 36.19 mm (w) x 44.28 mm (h), weighing 18.8 grams, accompanied by its period original pocket of issue, constructed of light brown paper stock, the obverse with a black inscription of “MEDAILLE ‘WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN 1941/142’ (OSTMEDAILLE)”, the reverse with a maker’s mark of “PREUßISCHE STAATSMÜNZE, BERLIN” for the Prussian State Mint, measuring 58 mm (w) x 105 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.
