Germany, Third Reich. A Cased Anschluss Commemorative Medal
(Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 13. März 1938 mit Etui). Constructed of silvered bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, the obverse with two raised figures, one of which is holding a flag and the other a length of broken chain, above a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse with a central date of “13. MÄRZ 1938” circumscribed by an inscription of “EIN VOLK, EIN REICH, EIN FÜHRER” (“ONE PEOPLE, ONE NATION, ONE LEADER”), unmarked, measuring 32.40 mm in diameter, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of card stock with a faux red leather exterior, the obverse lid with a gold embossed German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the interior with a white satin-type lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted red doeskin medal bed, opening with a functional magnetic metal spring catch with exterior stud release and a functional magnetic metal hinge, unmarked, measuring 47 mm (w) x 101 mm (l) x 18 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.
