Germany, Third Reich. A West Wall Medal
(Deutsches Schutzwall-Ehrenzeichen). Constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse consisting of an oval oak wreath, with a central pillbox topped by a crossed sword and shovel and a NSDAP-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse with an inscription of “FÜR ARBEIT ZUM SCHUTZE DEUTSCHLAND” (“FOR WORK IN THE PROTECTION OF GERMANY”), unmarked, measuring 33.56 mm (w) x 46.71 mm (h), weighing 17.9 grams, in extremely fine condition.
