Germany, Wehrmacht. A Close Combat Clasp, Bronze Grade, by Josef Feix & Söhne
(Nahkampfspange in Bronze). Constructed of zink, the obverse centerpiece topped by a German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika above a crossed bayonet and stick grenade, with sun rays emanating from the centre of the left and right sides, and with four oak leaves and two acorns on each side, the reverse with a barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, designer marked “F.E.C. W.E. PEEKHAUS, BERLIN”, maker marked with the logo of Josef Feix & Söhne, Gablonz, measuring 97.64 mm (w) x 26.77 mm (h), most of the bronzed finish has been lost, otherwise in better than very fine condition.
