Germany, Third Reich. A Return of Memel Commemorative Medal, with Case
(Medaille zur Erinnerung an die Heimkehr des Memellandes). Constructed of bronzed zink, on loop for suspension, the obverse with two raised figures, one of which is clutching a flag and the other a length of broken chain, above a NSDAP-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse with an inscription of “ZUR ERINNERUNG AN DIE HEIMKEHR DES MEMELLANDES 22. MÄRZ 1939” (“IN COMMEMORATION OF THE HOMECOMING OF MEMEL 22 MARCH 1939”), within an oak leaf wreath, the edge marked with LDO code “L/13” for Paul Meybauer, Berlin, measuring 32.10 mm in diameter, weighing 14.0 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of heavy card stock with a faux red leather exterior, the lid with a gold embossed NSDAP-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the interior with a padded white satin lid liner and a slotted and depressed red velvet medal bed, unmarked, measuring 48 mm (w) x 102 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), age-appropriate material fatigue is evident to the case, in overall better than very fine condition.
