Germany, Wehrmacht. An Italian-German African Campaign Medal
(Italienisch-deutsche Feldzugsmedaille für Afrika). Constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing two raised gladiators (symbolizing Germany and Italy) grappling with a crocodile (symbolizing Great Britain), the reverse bearing a central raised depiction of the Arco dei Fileni, flanked by a fasces and swastika, and circumscribed by an inscription of “ITALIAN-GERMAN CAMPAIGN IN AFRICA” in both German and Italian, the obverse maker marked “LORIOLI, MILANO”, measurig 30.86 mm in diameter, in extremely fine condition.
