Germany. A Photo Album & Insignia of R. Faß of the Grossdeutschland Medical Division
A veteran bring-back, consisting of a service photo album andan insignia grouping belonging to Sanitäter Unteroffizier Rudolf Faß of the Sanitäter Ersatz Kompanie der Panzer-Grenadier Division Grossdeutschland (NCO Paramedic Rudolf Faß of the Paramedic Reserve Company of the Panzer-Grenadier Division Großdeutschland). The photo album encompasses Rudolf’s military career, starting in 1939 and ending 1942. The album depicts Rudolf as he underges medical training, his engagement, outings with his comrades, field training extercises, several Christas celebrations, athletic events, and much more. The exterior is constructed of thick faux leather, with 24 black cardstock pages; measuring 262 mm x 189 mm. The photo album is accompanied by 1) A set of Feldwebel Rank Grossdeutschland Medical Staff shoulder boards; slip-on style; constructed of bottle green cotton/wool blended fabric, with dark blue Waffenfarbe piping around the edges of the strap, as well as 9 mm wide machine embroidered tress along the edges of the tab and “GD” embroidered in blue machine embroidery on both tabs; each tab with a single silvered rank pip; measuring 102 mm (w) x 43 mm (h). 2) A Red Cross armband; constructed of white cotton, with a red cross embroidered in bight red machine embroidery in the centre of the armband; stamped twice but both illegible; measuring 176 mm (w) x 102 mm (h). 3) An identification tag of the Sanitäter Ersatz Abteilung 9; in aluminum; with “San. Ers. Abt. 9. 580 A” stamped on both sides of the triple slotted disc; with three drill holes; on a white braided cord for suspension; measuring 70 mm (w) x 51 mm (h). 4) An example of a second war period “Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42 medaille”; in silvered and patinated feinzink; with a large national eagle on the obverse clutching a swastika (“Hakenkreuz”) and a leftward facing Stahlhelm on the top with horizontally oriented stick grenade; the reverse “Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42” (Winter Battle in the East 1941/42) in all capital letters with a crossed sword and laurel wreath on the bottom; missing its suspension loop and ribbon; measuring 36.16 mm in diameter. 5) A Wehrpass photograph of Rufolf Faß; with both rivets intact; measuring 38 mm (w) x 53 mm (h). An exeptional grouping, giving interesting insight into a young individual serving as a paramedic within the Grossdeutschland Division; in overall extremely fine condition.
