The Extensive Knight's Cross Group of Unteroffizier Paul Stoll; This is perhaps the most complete and extensive Knight's Cross grouping that we have had the pleasure of offering; it stands are one of those increasingly rare groups, of any nationality, that has gone undisturbed since the end of the war. It includes are great deal of personal detailing that is uncommon to nearly all Knight's Cross groupings. Awarded to Paul Stoll, winner of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on 2 September 1944 as an Unteroffizier and troop leader in the 7./Panzergrenadier-Regiment 128. Stoll was born 26 October 1920 Gaudernbach and died 16 December 2011 (aged 91) Ingelheim. This group featured extensively on WAF when originally sold out of the Stoll estate. The group includes the following awards, documents, and personal effects;   The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross 1939; By Klein & Quenzer; Iron/magnetic core, silver frame, 48.80mm(width) x 48.89mm(height), weighs (without ribbon) 31.6 grams; marked “800” on reverse, loop marked “800” and “65”; textbook example with all the features of Klein & Quenzer cross, worn yet very fine; with original long ribbon approximately 16.5cm in length. Safely contained in original case of issue that retains a strong hinge and catch; fine. Awarded to Stoll 2 September 1944. This is the only award without the award document. It is noted in the soldbuch. Of great interest, are the photographs of Stoll being awarded his RK in hospital.   Iron Cross First Class 1939; iron core, with silver frame; very slightly vaulted, with toning of frame, unmarked; extremely fine. Accompanied by award document dated 08.03.1944.   Iron Cross Second Class 1939: iron core, silver frame; period ribbon, very fine. Accompanied by award document dated 08.03.1943.   War Merit Cross Second Class 1939: In bronze, well worn by Stoll, fine.  Accompanied by award document dated 15.12.1943.   1941/42 East Medal; In zinc, marked 4 on ring, with period ribbon, very fine. Accompanied by award document dated 20.08.1942.   Close Combat Clasp, Bronze Grade in zinc, marked FEC.W.E.PEEKHAUS BERLIN and AUSF. A.G.M.U.K. GABLONZ, slightly vaulted; extremely fine. Accompanied by award document dated 06.11.1944.   Tank Assault Badge; Bronze Grade; in zinc, fine detailing, better than extremely fine. Accompanied by award document dated 26.05.1944.   Black Grade Wound Badge; In die stamped patinated tombac, marked L/11, very fine. Accompanied by award document dated 19.08.1943.   Silver Grade Wound Badge; In silvered tombac, worn, near extremely fine. Accompanied by award document dated 09.05.1944.   Gold Grade Wound Badge; In gilt tombac, unmarked, worn, very fine. Accompanied by award document dated 11.08.1944.   Driver's Proficiency Badge; Bronze Grade. In bronze metal, magnetic, on backing, worn, very fine. Accompanied by award document dated 11.06.1944.   Stoll's wartime used map case remains with the group.    Stoll's 1957 Version awards are also present: Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross 1957; Magnetic core (magnetic), silver frame, with original ribbon; Miniature KC; with extensive 1957 miniature set. A commemorative cast iron KC 1957 plate is included.   Importantly, Stoll's Soldbuch has survived with the estate and is included. Here, his RK is stated.    Also accompanied by Stoll's ID (dog tag), 1941 standard bandage, and interestingly, presumably the piece of shrapnel that wounded Stoll during combat.    Included are two extensive photo albums outlining Stoll's service throughout the war; a fantastic collection of images of service in France, Germany, and Russia. These albums including hundreds of original photos of Stoll and his unique wartime experience. Also includes relevant newspaper clippings, articles and notes that he found important enough to include his albums.    Of great interest to historians and collectors alike is his wartime diary. An extensive book with all handwritten notes and entries. An additional modern binder is included which contents a large collection of original documents, service records, and wartime correspondence.    In summary, this is one the most complete and extensive Knight's Cross groups we have offered and one of the most desirable.
