Germany, Wehrmacht. An Order of Azad Hind, Grand Star with Swords, by Rudolf Souval
(Orden Azad Hind der Provisorischen Regierung Freies Indien). Constructed of silvered tombak with gilt and enamels, the obverse consisting of an eight-pointed starburst, bearing a central white enameled medallion overlaid by a gilded and leftward-facing Bengal tiger, surrounded by a ring of white enamel bearing a gilt inscription of “AZAD HIND” join by clusters of green enameled laurel leaves, pierced by a pair of gilded crossed swords, the reverse topped by an integral loop with a suspension ring retaining an original shortened neck ribbon, the reverse maker marked “RUDOLF SOUVAL, WIEN VII”, measuring 60.39 mm (w) x 60.41 mm (h), weighing 34.2 grams, demonstrating minor flecking to the enamels, in extremely fine condition.
