Germany, Wehrmacht. A Mint Spanish Cross in Gold
(Spanienkreuz in Gold). Constructed of gilded silver, consisting of a Maltese Cross, the obverse with pebbled arms joined through the quadrants by Luftwaffe-style German national eagles clutching mobile swastikas, overlaying crossed swords set through the centrepiece, with a central double-ringed mobile swastika, the reverse with an elongated block hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a rounded catch, stamped with a silver content number of “800”, measuring 56.35 mm (w) x 55.78 mm (h), weighing 30.3 grams, the hilt of the left sword viewed from the reverse demonstrates minor manufacture-period tool marks, in overall near-mint condition; accompanied by a cut-off pocket from the Luftwaffe uniform it was formerly attached to, constructed of a dark grey-blue cotton twill and retaining an original pebbled aluminum button maker marked on the reverse with the logo of Steinhauer & Lück, Lüdenscheid, measuring 125 mm (w) x 140 mm (h), in very fine condition.
