Germany, Wehrmacht. A Spanish Cross in Silver, by Wilhelm Deumer
(Spanienkreuz in Silber). Constructed of silver, consisting of a Maltese Cross with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse with pebbled arms joined through the quadrants by Luftwaffe eagles clutching mobile swastikas, bearing a central raised mobile swastika set within dual circular rings, the reverse with a raised barrel hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a rounded catch, stamped with a silver content number of “835” and demonstrating the characteristics of manufacture by Wilhelm Deumer, Lüdenscheid, measuring 56.03 mm (w) x 56.22 mm (h), weighing 33.7 grams, a striking example in extremely fine condition.
