Constructed of silvered zink, consisting of a Maltese Cross with swords piercing the centre, the obverse with pebbled arms and a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse with a barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, the pinback maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “4” for Steinhauer & Lück, Lüdenscheid, measuring 48.93 mm (w) x 47.84 mm (h), weighing 18.1 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a card stock frame with a faux black leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a silvered embossed depiction of the award (printed UPSIDE-DOWN), the interior with a white rayon lid liner and slotted beige felt medal bed, opening with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release and a functional metal hinge, unmarked, measuring 68 mm (w) x 68 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), the cross has lost most of its finish and some material fatigue is evident to the case, in overall very fine condition.
