Germany, Wehrmacht. A War Merit Cross, II Class with Swords, by Deschler & Sohn
(Kriegsverdienstkreuz II. Klasse mit Schwertern). Constructed of silvered zink, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Maltese Cross with pebbled arms and crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse bearing a central wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a central wreathed date of “1939”, the suspension loop maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “1” for Deschler & Sohn, Munich, measuring 48.13 mm (w) x 49.80 mm (h), weighing 26.2 grams, accompanied by its original package of issue, constructed of light brown paper stock, the exterior bearing an inscription of “KRIEGS-VERDIENSTKREUZ 2. KLASSE MIT SCHWERTERN” and a maker’s mark of “DESCHLER & SOHN, MÜNCHEN”, measuring 60 mm (w) x 105 mm (h) and retaining a wax paper liner, with total loss of finish and minor surface oxidation visible to the award, in overall very fine condition.
