Germany. A Wehrmacht Heer (Army) Issue Narvik Campaign Shield
Constructed of stamped cupal; the shield featuring a national eagle with swooped down wings, clutching a wreathed swastika; inscribed “Narvik” in capital letters, with an Edelweiss flower (representing the Heer) in the center between the date “1940” and a crossed anchor (representing the Kriegsmarine) and propellor (representing the Luftwaffe) on the obverse; with its wool backer (note the extensive mothing); with its metal backing plate and all four prongs intact; measuring 95 mm x 50 mm; near very fine condition.
