Germany, Heer. A Cholm Shield
(Heer Cholmschild). Constructed of silvered magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a raised Heer-style German national eagle clutching an Iron Cross defaced by a central swastika, situated above an inscription of “CHOLM 1942”, affixed with three reverse attachment prongs to a field-grey wool backer with an intact paper liner, unmarked, measuring 39.54 mm (w) x 64.77 mm (h), demonstrating minor oxidation of the shield and significant oxidation throughout the backplate, in addition to the loss of the paper backer, in very fine condition.
