Germany, Heer. A Krim Shield, by Josef Feix & Söhne
(Heer Krimschild). Constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a raised map of Crimea and southern Ukraine, topped by a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, flanked by dates “1941-1942”, attached with all four reverse attachment prongs to a magnetic metal backplate with a field-grey wool liner indicating Heer issue, the reverse retaining a partially-intact black paper liner bearing the maker’s mark of Josef Feix & Söhne, Gablonz, and a manufacture date of “42”, the shield measuring 51.90 mm (w) x 61.02 mm (h), with oxidation evident to the backplate, in overall extremely fine condition.
