Germany, Heer. A Kuban Shield
(Heer Kubanschild). Constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a stylized map of the Kuban region, topped by an inscription of “KUBAN” and a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika and flanked by a date of “1943”, affixed with all four reverse attachment prongs to a magnetic metal backplate and field-grey wool liner, the reverse retaining an original brown paper liner, unmarked, the shield measuring 51.96 mm (w) x 62.07 mm (h), with oxidation of the backplate and partial detachment of the paper liner evident, in overall near extremely fine condition.
