Germany, Heer. A Narvik Shield
(Heer Narvikschild). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a raised edelweiss, propeller, and anchor, symbolizing the Gebirgsjäger, Luftwaffe, and Kriegsmarine, respectively, flanked by a date of “1940”, topped by an inscription of “NARVIK” and a German national eagle perched on top of a wreathed swastika, affixed with all reverse attachment prongs to a magnetic metal backplate with a field-grey wool liner indicating Heer (Gebirgsjäger) issue, unmarked, measuring 41.24 mm (w) x 91.70 mm (h), with oxidation and loss of finish evident, in addition to a puncture at the bottom, in very fine condition.
