Germany, Heer. A Narvik Shield, Army Issue
(Narvikschild). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a raised anchor, propeller, and edelweiss, representing the Kriegsmarine, Luftwaffe, and Gebirgsjäger, respectively, flanked by a date of “1940”, topped by an inscription of “NARVIK” and a German national eagle perched on top of a wreathed swastika, affixed to a field-grey wool backer with all four reverse attachment prongs intact, lined with a postwar replacement paper liner, unmarked, the shield measuring 40.72 mm (w) x 91.96 mm (h), with some oxidation and loss of finish evident, in overall better than very fine condition.
