Germany, Wehrmacht. A Narvik Shield
(Narvikschild). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a propeller, anchor, and edelweiss, representing the Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, and Gebirgsjäger, respectively, topped by an inscription of “NARVIK” and a German national eagle perched on top of a wreathed swastika, the reverse retaining three of four original attachment prongs, unmarked, measuring 42.20 mm (w) x 91.08 mm (h), weighing 22.4 grams, with no evidence of gilt finish indicating Heer or Luftwaffe issue, missing its wool liner and backplate in addition to the absent prong, in fair condition.
