Germany, Wehrmacht. A Pair of Campaign Shields
(Ärmelschildes). A pair of Wehrmacht campaign shields, including a Kuban Shield, constructed of a bronzed zink alloy, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a stylized map of the Kuban region, topped by an inscription of “KUBAN” and a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, flanked by a date of “1943”, affixed with all four reverse attachment prongs to a zink backplate with a dark grey wool liner indicating Luftwaffe issue, unmarked, the shield measuring 53.12 mm (w) x 61.82 mm (h), with extensive oxidation evident, in fair condition, and; a Krim Shield, constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a map of Crimea and southern Ukraine, topped by a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, flanked by dates “1941-1942”, the reverse retaining four integral clips, unmarked, measuring 54.02 mm (w) x 61.18 mm (h), missing its backplate and liner, in very fine condition.
