Germany. A 1940 Wehrmacht Heer (Army) Narvik Campaign Shield
A 1940 Wehrmacht Heer (Army) Issue Narvik Schild; constructed of stamped zink; the shield; featuring national eagle with swooped down wings, clutching a wreathed swastika; inscribed “Narvik” in capital letters, with an Edelweiss flower (representing the Heer) in the center between the date “1940” and a crossed anchor (representing the Kriegsmarine) and propeller (representing the Luftwaffe) on the obverse; with its wool backer perfectly preserved; all four prongs perfectly intact on the reverse, with its mint paper backer; measuring 58 mm (w) x 103 mm (h); an issued example - visible are tiny holes in the paper backer from attachment to a uniform, but a lightly worn example with nearly all of its original silver finish intact; in virtually mint condition.
