Germany. A Kriegsmarine Issue Narvik Shield
(Kriegsmarine Narvik Schild). Constructed of of gilded stamped zink; the obverse featuring a national eagle with swooped down wings, clutching a wreathed swastika; inscribed “Narvik” in capital letters, with an Edelweiss flower (representing the Heer) in the center between the date “1940” and a crossed anchor (representing the Kriegsmarine) and propeller (representing the Luftwaffe); with a dark blue wool backer and black paper backing fully preserved; measuring 54 mm (w) x 102 mm (h); with nearly all of its original gilt finish preserved; in overall near extremely fine condition.
