Germany. A Bronze Grade Infantry Assault Badge by E. Ferdinand Wiedmann
An example of a second war German Bronze Grade Infantry Assault Badge (Infanterie Sturmabzeichen in Bronze); constructed of oval shaped oak leaf wreath in bronzed zink; the obverse with a national eagle clutching a swastika on the top and a bowtie on the bottom and a Karabiner 98k diagonally across the badge with a bayonet attached to the front of the barrel and the carrying sling hanging from the rifle; the reverse plain, with a vertical pinback, a sheet metal hinge, and a flat wire catch soldered onto a supporting plate; maker marked with the stylized logo of “E. Ferdinand Wiedmann” on the reverse; measuring 46.21 mm (w) x 61.13 mm (h); weighing 29.7 grams; with nearly all of its original bronze finish worn off, but with enough of its finish remaining to positively identify this as a Bronze Grade Infantry Assault Badge; in overall near very fine condition.
