Germany, Wehrmacht. A Close Combat Clasp, Bronze Grade, by Friedrich Linden
(Nahkampfspange in Bronze). Constructed of bronze zink, the obverse consisting of a central square oak leaf wreath, topped by a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a mobile swastika, above a crossed bayonet and stick grenade, with a magnetic metal backplate, flanked on each side by four acorns and sun rays with dual acorns, the reverse with a barrel hinge and horizontal banjo-style pinback meeting a flattened catch, bearing the remnants of a designer mark of “PEEKHAUS, BERLIN” and maker logo of Friedrich Linden, Lüdenscheid, measuring 96.07 mm (w) x 25.61 mm (h), weighing 32.0 grams, the zink demonstrates extensive deterioration with a replacement bronze finish and the backplate has similarly been replaced, a refurbished relic clasp in poor condition.
