Germany, Wehrmacht. A Panzer Assault Badge
(Panzerkampfabzeichen). An unusual Panzer Assault Badge, constructed of zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, around a central Panzer IV rolling over grassy terrain, with its left tread extending beyond the edge of the wreath, the reverse with a ball hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flattened catch, maker marked with the logo of an unidentified manufacturer formerly erroneously identified as Adolf Schwerdt, the obverse bears the remains of bronze finish while the reverse bears the remains of silver finish indicating a possible replacement coating leaving the badge of indeterminate grade, with additional scratching out of the eagle’s face, an interesting example in very fine condition.
