Germany, Wehrmacht. A Silver Grade Wound Badge, by Hermann Wernstein
(Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, around a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with an integral hinge and vertical pinback meeting an integral catch, unmarked, measuring 36.42 mm (w) x 44.04 mm (h), weighing 23.0 grams, accompanied by its period original package of issue, constructed of field-grey paper stock, the exterior bearing an inscription of “VERWUNDETENABZEICHEN SILVER” and a maker’s mark of “HERMANN WENSTEIN, JENA-LÖBSTEDT”, measuring 58 mm (w) x 105 mm (h), with moderate loss of silver finish throughout, in very fine condition.
