Germany, Heer. A Wehrmacht Heer (Army) Infantry Assault Badge, Silver Grade, by Sohni Heubach
(Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen, in Silber). Instituted 20.12.1939 by Generalfieldmarschall Walther von Brauchitsch. (Issued 1939-1945). Constructed of silvered feinzink, with a national eagle clutching a swastika on the top and a bowtie on the bottom, and a diagonally across the badge is a Karabiner 98k with the bayonet attached to the front of the barrel and the carrying sling hanging from the rifle, the reverse plain, with a vertical round wire pinback, a sheet metal hinge, and a round wire pinback, an unmarked example, but depicting the typical manufacturing characteristics of Sohni, Heubach & Co, such as the 5-vein oak leaf immediately to the right of the national eagle, measuring 47.05 mm (w) x 61.71 mm (h), weighing 25.7 grams, in overall very fine condition.
