Germany, Heer. An Infantry Assault Badge by Richard Simm & Söhne with Award Document
(Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen in Silber mit Verleihungsurkunde). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, diagonally across the badge is a Karabiner 98k rifle with the bayonet attached and carrying sling hanging from the rifle, the reverse with a ball hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked with the logo of Richard Simm & Söhne, measuring 48.70 mm (w) x 62.65 mm (h), weighing 34.5 grams, accompanied by its award document, constructed of off-white paper stock with black ink, named to “OBERJÄGER JOHANN SCHERER”, 11th Company, 91st Gebirgsjäger Regiment, issued in the field on 31 December 1942, featuring a handwritten signature of Oberstleutnant Ludwig Hörl, measuring 148 mm (w) x 208 mm (h), the badge has lost most of its silver finish and a central folding crease is evident to the award document, in overall near extremely fine condition.
