Germany, Third Reich. A 1934 Berchtesgaden Heer, SA, and SS Ski Competition Participant’s Badge, by Carl Poellath
(Skimeisterschaften Teilnehmerabzeichen). Constructed of silvered bronze withmulti-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, surrounding an enameled depiction of a skier in mid-jump, overlaying NSDAP, Wehrmacht, and German Ski Association flags, above an inscription of “DEUTSCHES UND HEERES-SKIMEISTERSCHAFTEN, BERCHTESGADEN 7.-12. FEB. 1934, SA U. SS SKI-MEISTERSCHAFTEN”, the reverse with a vertical pinback, maker marked “C. POELLATH, SCHROBENHAUSEN”, measuring 44 mm (w) x 60 mm (h), with minor flecking and loss of finish visible to the enamels and base metal, respectively, in near extremely fine condition.
