Germany, Heer. A Black Grade Wound Badge, with Award Document, to Walter Jäger
(Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz mit Verleihungsurkunde). Constructed of blackened magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a vertical pinback meeting a flattened catch, unmarked, measuring 36.73 mm (w) x 44.27 mm (h), measuring 7.6 grams, accompanied by its period original package of issue, constructed of beige paper stock, the exterior bearing an inscription of “VERWUNDETENABZEICHEN SCHWARZ” and a maker’s mark of “HEINRICH WANDER, GABLONZ/NEIßE”, including an original wax paper insert, measuring 60 mm (w) x 100 mm (h), with some oxidation evident to the obverse of the badge, in better than very fine condition; accompanied by its award document, named to “WALTER JÄGER” of Jäger-Regiment 207 (97. Jäger-Division), awarded in 15 December 1942 for a single wound suffered on 25 October 1942 (when his unit was engaged on the Eastern Front), featuring a handwritten signature of an Oberarszt and chief doctor of Reserve Lazarett II, measuring 140 mm (w) x 200 mm (h), with some folding creases evident, in very fine condition.
