Germany, Heer. A Wound Badge, Black Grade, with Award Document to Grenadier Franz Jankowiak
(Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz mit Verleihungsurkunde). Constructed of blackened bronze, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a crimped barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked, measuring 38.22 mm (w) x 45.50 mm (h), weighing 8.9 grams, in extremely fine condition; accompanied by its original awrd document, constructed of off-white paper stock with black ink, named to “GRENADIER FRANZ JANKOWIAK” of “10. I.R. 166” (“10th company, 166th Infantry Regiment”), issued in Gelsenkirchen-Buer on 23 February 1944 for a single wound suffered on 25 January, measuring 142 mm (w) x 200 mm (h), with minor material fatigue evident, in overall near extremely fine condition.
