Germany, Wehrmacht. A Mint and Unissued Black Grade Wound Badge, by the Vienna Mint
(Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz). Constructed of blackened bronze, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “30” for the Vienna Mint, measuring 36.65 mm (w) x 44.15 mm (h), weighing 7.0 grams, accompanied by its period original package of issue, constructed of light brown paper stock, the exterior bearing an inscription of “VERWUNDETENABZEICHEN IN SCHWARZ” and a maker’s mark of “HAUPTMÜNZAMT WIEN” for the Vienna Mint, measuring 56 mm (w) x 106 mm (h) and retaining an original wax paper liner, a rare matching maker-marked badge in mint condition.
