Germany, Wehrmacht. A Mint Black Grade Wound Badge, by the Vienna Mint
(Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz). Constructed of blackened bronze, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, around a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a clip hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “30” for the Vienna Mint, measuring 36.74 mm (w) x 43.72 mm (h), weighing 7.0 grams, accompanied by its original package of issue, constructed of beige paper stock, the exterior bearing an inscription of “VERWUNDETEN-ABZEICHEN SCHWARZ” and a maker’s mark of “HAUPTMÜNZAMT WIEN” for the Vienna Mint, measuring 58 mm (w) x 105 mm (h) and retaining an original wax paper liner, in near mint condition.
