Germany, Wehrmacht. A Mint Black Grade Wound Badge, by the Vienna Mint
(Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz). Constructed of blackened magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a clip hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “30” for the Vienna Mint, measuring 36.79 mm (w) x 43.86 mm (h), weighing 7.0 grams, accompanied by its original package of issue, constructed of light brown paper stock, the exterior bearing an inscription of “VERWUNDETEN-ABZEICHEN SCHWARZ” and a maker’s mark of “HAUPTMÜNZAMT WIEN” for the Vienna Mint, measuring 58 mm (w) x 104 mm (h) and retaining an original wax paper liner, in unissued and near mint condition.
