Germany, Wehrmacht. A Wound Badge, Black Grade, with Award Document to Fritz Mengel
(Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz mit Verleihungsurkunde). Constructed of blackened bronze, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked, measuring 36.67 mm (w) x 44.00 mm (h), weighing 12.1 grams, accompanied by its original award document, constructed of off-white paper with black ink, named to “PION. FRITZ MENGEL”, awarded on 12 February 1943 for a wound suffered on 3 January 1943, measuring 140 mm (w) x 200 mm (h), some loss of black finish evident to the badge, in overall near extremely fine condition.
