Germany, Wehrmacht. A Gold Grade Wound Badge, by Fritz Zimmermann
(Verwundetenabzeichen in Gold). Constructed of gilded zink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, around a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a crimped hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, maker marked with LDO code “L24” for Fritz Zimmermann, Stuttgart, measuring 37.00 mm (w) x 44.24 mm (h), weighing 16.3 grams, demonstrating the loss of most of the gilt finish, in very fine condition. A very rare version.
