Germany, Wehrmacht. A Gold Grade Wound Badge, with Case, by the Vienna Mint
(Verwundetenabzeichen in Gold mit Etui). Constructed of gilded zink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, around a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with an integral hinge and vertical pinback meeting an integral catch, maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “30” for the Vienna Mint, measuring 36.20 mm (w) x 43.75 mm (h), weighing 26.8 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a heavy card stock frame with a faux black leather exterior liner, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and partially-intact hinge cover, with a slotted beige felt medal bed, unmarked, measuring 70 mm (w) x 70 mm (l) x 22 mm (h), most of the decoration’s gilt finish has been lost and moderate material fatigue is visible throughout the case, in overall very fine condition.
