Germany, Wehrmacht. A Silver Grade Wound Badge, by Hermann Wernstein
(Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, around a central raised Stahlhelm bearing a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with an integral hinge and vertical pinback meeting a rounded integral catch, unmarked, measuring 36.48 mm (w) x 44.22 mm (h), weighing 22.7 grams, accompanied by its period original package of issue, constructed of grey paper stock, the exterior bearing an inscription of “VERWUNDETENABZEICHEN SILBER” and a maker’s mark of “HERMANN WERNSTEIN, JENA-LÖBSTEDT”, measuring 57 mm (w) x 105 mm (h), with moderate loss of silver finish evident throughout the badge, in overall near extremely fine condition.
