Germany, Wehrmacht. A Silver Grade Wound Badge, by Hermann Wernstein
(Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber). Constructed of silvered feinzink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central raised Stahlehlm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with an integral hinge and vertical pinback meeting an integral catch, unmarked, measuring 36.48 mm (w) x 44.20 mm (h), weighing 23.4 grams, accompanied by its period original package of issue, constructed of grey paper stock, the exterior bearing an inscription of “VERWUNDETENABZEICHEN SILBER” and a maker’s mark of “HERMANN WERNSTEIN, JENA-LÖBSTEDT”, measuring 57 mm (w) x 106 mm (h), a rare example of a zink badge in near mint condition.
