Germany. A Japanese-German Cultural Institute Tenth Anniversary Table Medal 1927-1937
In bronze, obverse illustrating the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, Japan, with a bridge in the foreground and a rising sun above, with comparable inscriptions in Japanese to those used on the obverse in German, reverse illustrating the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany with large swastika above, inscribed "DEN HELFERN IM VÖLKISCHEN AUSTAUSCH" above, the swastika flanked by the dates "1927" at the left and "1937" at the right, inscribed "JAPANISCH-DEUTSCHES KULTUR-INSTITUT" below, 98 mm, extremely fine. Accompanied by a 70 mm x 188 mm card with "I.A." typed in front of the inscription "Ergebenst überreicht vom Japaninstitut" (Respectfully Presented by the Japan Institute) in black ink, in its hardshelled case of issue, green velvet recessed medal bed, lightly scuffed exterior, case better than very fine. Footnote: This table medal was instituted on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Japanese-German Cultural Institute, dedicated to the workers in the cultural exchange between the two countries.
