This is a unique cross recovered from the bombed Zimmermann factory; it is unknown to the collector community and may likely be a one-of-a-kind prototype; in silvered bronze with blue enamels; two drill holes - one on the top and bottom arm of the cross; vertical pinback with a barrel hinge and a round wire loop; measuring 48.55 mm x 48.91 mm; unfinished with fire damage; recovered.
Footnote: Zimmermann was a well known German manufacturer of a great variety of awards, German as well as International, that was destroyed in an allied bombing raid in the early 1940’s on Pforzheim, Germany. Sometime during the 1990’s, during construction on the former factory site, a quantity of medals was discovered and purchased by eMedals. Some were in good condition, but most of the pieces exhibited fire damage, or were rusted. Hundreds of pieces were partially finished, and sometimes were mere medal parts, as one would expect to be found in the factory.
