Germany, Third Reich. A Day of German Seafaring Plaque in Silver, by Carl Wild
(Tag der Deutschen Seefahrt Erinnerungsplakette in Silber). Constructed of silver, the obverse bearing a central depiction of a sail ship cutting through waves, set within an oval border bearing inscriptions of “SEEFAHRT IST NOT” (“SEAFARING IS NECESSITY”) and “TAG DER DEUTSCHEN SEEFAHRT 25.-26. 5. 1935” (“DAY OF GERMAN SEARFARING 25-26 MAY 1935”), topped by a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika and above an anchor, the reverse maker marked “CARL WILD, HAMBURG” and a silver content number of “990S”, measuring 86.50 mm (w) x 94.08 mm (h), weighing 190 grams, a rare example in extremely fine condition.
