Germany, Third Reich. A Civil Service 40 Years Long Service Award, with Case, by Deschler & Sohn
(Treudienst-Ehrenzeichen, I. Klasse für 40 Jahre). Instituted 30 January 1938. (1938-1942). Constructed of gilded bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, consisting of a Cross Pattée with pebbled arms, with an oak leaf wreath through the quadrants, the obverse with a black swastika, the reverse with a central raised inscription of “FÜR TREUE DIENSTE” (“FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE”), unmarked, measuring 41.35 mm (w) x 46.16 mm (h), weighing 23.5 grams (inclusive of ribbon), accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a card stock frame with a faux red leather exterior, the interior with a white satin-type lid liner and intact hinge cover, maker marked “DESCHLER & SOHN, MÜNCHEN”, with a slotted and depressed red felt medal bed, opening with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release and a functional metal hinge, measuring 48 mm (w) x 102 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), with moderate material fatigue evident to the case, in overall near extremely fine condition.
