Germany, Third Reich. A Civil Service Long Service Cross, I Class for 40 Years with Case, by Deschler & Sohn
(Treudienst-Ehrenzeiche, I. Klasse für 40 Jahre mit Etui). Instituted 30 January 1938. (1938-1942 issue). Constructed of gilded bronze on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, consisting of a Cross Pattée with pebbled arms, with the quadrants joined by an oak leaf wreath, the obverse bearing a central black enameled swastika, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR TREUE DIENSTE”, unmarked, measuring 41.36 mm (w) x 46.14 mm (h), weighing 23.1 grams (inclusive of ribbon), accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a card stock frame with a faux red leather exterior, the lid bearing a gilt number “40” within an oak leaf wreath, the interior with a white satin-type lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted maroon velvet medal bed, opening with a functional spring catch with exterior stud release and a functional metal hinge, the lid liner maker marked “DESCHLER & SOHN, MÜNCHEN”, measuring 50 mm (w) x 100 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
