Germany, Third Reich. An Air Defence Medal, II Class with Case
(Luftschutz-Ehrenzeichen II. Klasse mit Etui). Instituted 30 January 1938. (1938-1945 issue). Constructed of aluminum, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, consisting of a circular oak leaf wreath, the obverse with a central mobile swastika, circumscribed by an inscription of “FÜR VERDIENSTE IM LUFTSCHUTZ” (“FOR MERIT IN AIR DEFENCE”), the reverse with a central raised date of “1938”, unmarked, measuring 38.76 mm in diameter, weighing 13.1 grams (inclusive of ribbon), accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of card stock, exterior lid marked “LUFTSCHUTZ-EHRENZEICHEN 2. STUFE” (“AIR DEFENCE MEDAL 2ND CLASS”), unmarked, measuring 45 mm (w) x 98 mm (l) x 17 mm (h), some material fatigue evident to the presentation case, in overall near extremely fine condition.
