Germany, Third Reich. A Medal for Mine Rescue
(Grubenwehr-Ehrenzeichen). Constructed of silvered bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse consisting of a crossed pickaxes, overlaid by a raised NSDAP-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse with an inscription of “FÜR VERDIENSTE IM GRUBENWEHRWESEN” (“FOR MERIT IN MINE RESCUE”), unmarked, measuring 35.05 mm in diameter, weighing 17.5 grams, in near extremely fine condition.
