Germany, Third Reich. A German Horse Driver’s Badge, II Class in Silver, by L. Christian Lauer
(Deutsches Fahrer-Abzeichen II. Klasse in Silber). Instituted 16 May 1930. (1930-1945 issue). Constructed of silver, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by a stylized belt surrounding a letter “R”, around a central depiction of a manned chariot pulled by two horses, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a rounded catch, maker marked “L. CHR. LAUER, NÜRNBERG” and stamped with a silver content number of “990”, measuring 40.15 mm (w) x 50.40 mm (h), weighing 21.4 grams, demonstrating a consistent patina, in extremely fine condition.
