A 1938 Grundsteinlegung des Volkswagenwerkes badge (May 1938); in silvered bronze; horizontal pinback; unmarked; measuring 40 mm x 31 mm; extremely fine condition.
Footnote: On May 26, 1938, the Führer laid the cornerstone of the Volkswagen factory in Fallersleben, which was to produce the VW Beetle “Kraft durch Freude Wagen/Strength Through Joy Car”. The factory only built a handful of cars by the start of the war, and was re-tooled to produce the Type 82 Kübelwagen (52,000 built), and the amphibious Type 166 Schwimmwagen (14,000 built).
