Germany, Heer. A Heer (Army) Etched Dress Bayonet by F.W. Höller
(Heer Bajonett). Measuring 350 mm with the scabbard on, and 320 mm without, this bayonet features a 95 mm-long nickel-plated magnetic steel blade with a sharpened edge and a pointed tip. The obverse blade is acid-engraved "Zur Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit" (“In Memory of My Service Period”) inside a banner flanked on both sides by oak leaf branches and Wehrmacht- (Armed Forces) style German national eagles clutching mobile swastikas. The blade's obverse ricasso is clearly maker marked “”F.W. Höller, Solingen”, along with the company’s thermometer logo. It presents with a sharpened tip and semi-sharpened edge. The blade is met at the upper crossguard by a blackened leather washer fitting securely at the base. The crossguard features a hooked quillon, while both plates of the pebbled black synthetic grip are firmly held in place by two magnetic metal rivets and central pins. The slot retains most of its original red felt insert, indicative of the bayonet’s ceremonial use. Accompanied by its nickel-plated, blackened magnetic metal scabbard, complete with ball finial. Attached is a black leather frog, unmarked, with heavy, durable, quality stitching. Tied to the accompanying belt loop is an off-white portepee which completes with a partially red and golden-yellow acorn-style decoration. The blade demonstrates minor running marks, while some scratching to the remaining materials is evident, but the bayonet is in an otherwise near extremely fine condition.
